Window Box Dieline Generator

Window Box

Window Box is a tuck end carton with a window cut out of the front panel, so the product sells itself on the shelf while the box protects it. This generator draws the full carton, main tuck flap at the top of the back panel and at the bottom of the front panel, dust flaps on the sides, and a rounded rectangle window centred on the front, sized to the panel with a safe margin of board left on every side. Enter your product size, and the window is placed for you.

Window Box Dieline Guide

This generator makes a tuck end window box: a standard retail carton with a rounded window cut out of the front panel. Enter your size and download the dieline free as PDF or SVG.

What is a window box?

A window box is a folding carton with a hole cut in one panel, usually covered from inside with a clear film. Shoppers can see the colour, finish and quality of the product itself, which is why window boxes are standard for toys, cosmetics, candles, food and small electronics: the pack protects like a box and displays like a shelf hook.

The structure here is a tuck end carton. The main tuck flap sits on the back panel at the top and on the front panel at the bottom, with dust flaps on the depth panels and a short flap closing each end. The window is a rounded rectangle centred on the front panel, drawn 24 mm narrower than the panel and 36 mm shorter than the height, so a strong frame of board always remains around it.

Popular sizes

A is the front width that carries the window, B is the depth and H is the height. Leave enough panel around the window for the frame sizes below to stay strong.

Size (A × B × H)Typical use
2.4 × 1.6 × 3.9 in (60 × 40 × 100 mm)Lipsticks, balms and small cosmetics
3.1 × 1.6 × 4.7 in (80 × 40 × 120 mm)Toys, gadgets and beauty tools
3.9 × 2.0 × 5.9 in (100 × 50 × 150 mm)Candles, figures and gift items
3.9 × 3.9 × 4.7 in (100 × 100 × 120 mm)Jars, mugs and kitchen items

How to create your dieline

  1. Enter the box size: A is the width of the front panel, B is the depth and H is the height. The window is centred on the front panel automatically.
  2. Set the Inside size toggle to match how you measured. On is usually right, because the product must fit inside and the generator then adds the material thickness.
  3. Choose the material thickness for your board. The window removes board from the front, so do not go thinner than your product weight allows.
  4. Adjust the glue flap if your printer prefers a wider seam, then click Refresh to redraw the dieline.
  5. Check the window position in the preview, confirm the sheet size in Cutter Info, then Save as PDF or Save as SVG and place your artwork around the window.

Printing and material tips

Keep print, logos and text out of the window area and off the frame edges, and let the product do the talking through the hole. If your printer patches the window with film, the film is glued inside over the whole window plus a margin, so keep glue-sensitive inks and varnish away from the inside frame.

In the exported file, red is the cut line (including the window outline), green dashed is a fold and blue dotted is a perforation. Print at 100 percent scale and fold a test box around your product: the window should frame it without the product pressing on the film.

Frequently asked questions

Does the dieline include the window film?

No. The dieline cuts the window opening in the front panel. Clear film is a separate material that your printer glues inside the box over the opening, which is the standard way window boxes are made.

Can I change the window size or position?

The window is centred on the front panel and sized to it, 24 mm narrower than the panel and 36 mm shorter than the height, so a safe frame of board remains. For a custom window shape, edit the exported SVG in vector software.

Which panel carries the window?

The front panel (the first width panel, next to the glue flap). The main tuck flaps are on the back panel at the top and the front panel at the bottom, with dust flaps on the sides.

Is this window box dieline generator free?

Yes. It is free, with no signup and no download limit. Generate any size and export it as PDF or SVG.

Can I use the dieline for products I sell?

Yes. You can use dielines from this page for commercial production of your own products. Fold a test box around the real product first to confirm the size and the window framing.
