Trapezoid Meal Box Dieline Generator

Trapezoid Meal Box

Trapezoid Meal Box is a tapered meal container — wider at the top than the base — with a full hinged lid: the lid carries side skirts that fold down over the walls and a front flap that tucks into a slit to lock. This generator draws the whole blank from the top opening and height you enter: base, trapezoid walls, corner glue tabs, inner front flap, and the lid with its skirts and locking flap.

What is a trapezoid meal box?

A trapezoid meal box is a food container whose top opening is wider than its base. The flare makes meals easy to fill and eat from, lets empty boxes nest for storage, and gives the pack its modern fast-food look. Burgers with salads, rice meals, pasta and breakfast plates are its usual contents.

The structure here is a cross-shaped blank. Four trapezoid walls rise from a central base, joined by glue tabs on the side walls' corner edges. The back wall carries the lid: a full panel the size of the top opening, with skirts on its sides that fold down over the side walls when it closes, and a front tuck flap that locks into a slit on the front wall. A short flap on the front wall folds in under the lid.

Common trapezoid meal box sizes

A is the top length, B is the top width and H is the height. The base comes out smaller by the built-in taper, roughly 16 percent of the smaller top size per side.

Size (A × B × H)Typical use
5.9 × 4.3 × 1.8 in (150 × 110 × 45 mm)Burger with side salad
6.7 × 5.1 × 2.4 in (170 × 130 × 60 mm)Rice or pasta meal
7.5 × 5.5 × 2.8 in (190 × 140 × 70 mm)Large meal or breakfast plate
8.7 × 6.3 × 3.1 in (220 × 160 × 80 mm)Sharing platter or family portion

How to make your trapezoid meal box dieline

  1. Enter the top opening: A is the length, B is the width and H is the height of the finished box.
  2. Set the Inside size toggle to match how you measured. On is usually right, because the meal is an inside fit.
  3. Choose the material thickness. Meal boxes are usually 0.5 mm paperboard or E-flute for delivery stacking.
  4. Click Refresh to redraw, check the sheet size in Cutter Info, then Save as PDF or Save as SVG.
  5. Fold a test box: glue the corner tabs, fold the front flap in, close the lid and push the tuck flap into the front slit — it should lock with light pressure.

Print and assembly tips

The lid is the biggest print surface and the face customers photograph, so design it first. Keep artwork off the corner tabs and the slit area, and off the lid skirts if they will rub against the walls. For saucy meals, choose a lined or grease-resistant board; the taper means sauces pool in a smaller base.

In the exported file, red is the cut line, green dashed is a fold and blue dotted is a perforation. Print at 100 percent scale and test the lid lock with a real meal inside: a full box is heavier and the lock should hold when the box is carried by its sides.

How does the lid lock?

The lid folds over on its back-wall hinge, its side skirts wrap the side walls, and its front flap tucks into a slit cut in the front wall. The lock is mechanical — no tape needed for most meals.

Why is the top bigger than the base?

The flare (taper) makes the meal easy to fill and eat from, and lets empty boxes nest inside each other for compact storage. The taper is automatic; you enter the top opening and height.

What is the short flap on the front wall for?

It folds in under the lid and stiffens the front rim, so the slit area does not flex when the tuck flap is pushed in.
