Noodle Box Dieline Generator

Noodle Box

Noodle Box is the classic take-out tub: wider at the top than at the base, with four trapezoid walls, corner glue tabs, and fold-over flaps that close the top without a separate lid. This generator draws the full blank — base, tapered walls and the interlocking top flaps with thumb notches — from the top opening size and height you enter. The base size and taper are worked out for you.

Noodle Box Dieline Guide

This generator makes a tapered take-out (noodle) box dieline with a fold-over top. Enter the top opening and height, and download the dieline free as PDF or SVG.

What is a noodle box?

A noodle box — also called an oyster box or take-out box — is a tapered food tub: the top opening is wider than the base, so food is easy to fill, easy to eat from, and the tub stacks and nests well. It is the standard pack for noodles, rice dishes, pasta and stir-fries in takeaways worldwide.

The structure here is a cross-shaped blank. The base panel sits in the centre with four trapezoid walls around it; the side walls carry glue tabs on their corner edges that lock the tub into its frustum shape. On top, two long flaps on the front and back walls fold over the opening and overlap, while the two side flaps fold in first — each with a thumb notch so the box opens easily.

Common noodle box sizes

A is the top length, B is the top width and H is the height. The base comes out smaller by the built-in taper, roughly 13 percent of the smaller top size per side.

Size (A × B × H)Typical use

5.3 × 4.1 × 3.7 in (135 × 105 × 95 mm)Regular noodles or rice, about 16 oz

How to make your noodle box dieline

  1. Enter the top opening: A is the length, B is the width and H is the height of the finished tub.
  2. Set the Inside size toggle to match how you measured. On is usually right, because the food volume is an inside measure.
  3. Choose the material thickness. Take-out tubs are usually 0.5 mm paperboard; choose a coated or lined board for saucy food.
  4. Click Refresh to redraw, check the sheet size in Cutter Info, then Save as PDF or Save as SVG.
  5. Fold a test box: glue the four corner tabs, fold the side flaps in, then fold the long flaps over so they overlap and hold the top closed.

Print and assembly tips

The corner tabs glue to the inside of the front and back walls, so keep artwork and varnish off those corner strips. The long top flaps are the most visible surface when the box is carried — that is where your logo belongs. For wet dishes, board choice matters more than size: a polyethylene-lined or grease-resistant board keeps the tub stiff.

In the exported file, red is the cut line, green dashed is a fold and blue dotted is a perforation. Print at 100 percent scale, and check the folded volume with water or rice before committing to a print run.

How does the noodle box top close?

The two side flaps fold in first, then the two long flaps on the front and back walls fold over the opening and overlap. Friction holds them; many shops add a sticker or a staple for delivery.

What do the size fields mean?

A and B are the top opening of the finished tub and H is its height. The base is drawn smaller by an automatic taper, which is what gives the box its classic shape.

Can I eat directly from this box?

That is what it is designed for. Use a food-safe, lined board for direct food contact and check your local food packaging rules.
